Its grammage typically ranges from 175 g/m² to 450 g/m², with higher grammage generally indicating better load-bearing capacity. Regarding smoothness, for example, cardstock with a basis weight of 135 g/m² to 157 g/m² requires a smoothness score between 100 and 180 Sheffield. Structurally, cardstock should be able to lie flat without curling exceeding 5 mm.
Cardstock is easily shaped; however, due to its stiffness, creases, scratches, and curling marks are very noticeable and difficult to remove. Handling cardstock requires a high level of hand strength and dexterity.
